Pack the Jones In Pink on October 3

September 25, 2009

(LUBBOCK) – Texas Tech fans are urged to trade red and black for pink when the Red Raiders square off against New Mexico on Oct. 3 at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Covenant Health System, in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Texas Tech University, hope game attendees will Pack the Jones In Pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

Covenant has donated 15,000 free pink T-shirts to be passed out prior to the 2:30 p.m. kickoff.  “Think Pink, Go Red” is displayed on the front of the shirt and “Red Raiders for the Cure” is displayed on the back.

In addition to the T-shirts, volunteers will pass out pink koozie’s, breast self-exam shower cards and other breast cancer-related information at the Pink Tailgate in front of the Frazier Pavilion from noon to 2 p.m.  The Frazier Pavilion is located south of the Jones AT&T stadium, at the corner of Drive of Champions and Boston Avenue.

Earlier that morning, The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, sponsored by Covenant, will be held at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.  The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m.  You can register at the Race inside the Lubbock Civic Center Banquet Hall.  Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the registration fee is $30.  For more information on how to pre-register for the event, call (806) 698-1900 or visit www.komenlubbock.org

The Komen Lubbock Area Race for the Cure is the largest foot-race in Lubbock, attracting more than 7,000 walkers, runners and spectators in 2008. Now in its 15th year, this event has raised more than $2 million to support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs.

One in eight women or 12.6 percent of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime.  Breast cancer is very treatable if detected early.  More than 1.7 million women who have had breast cancer are still alive in the United States.  Please join Covenant Health System and Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Pack the Jones In Pink on Oct. 3.  Your help is needed to create awareness.

**UPDATE** The Pink T-shirts will be available during game day at the Frazier Alumni building. We no longer have T-shirts in our office to distribute prior the game day.
