Visiting Hours, Policies and Parking

At Covenant Health System, our primary focus is on the well-being of our patients and visitors. The following rules and policies are designed with your comfort in mind.

Visiting Hours and Policies

  • Covenant visiting hours are between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. The following units have special limitations:
    • NICU - Visitation may occur at any time except 6:00-8:00 a.m. and 6:00-8:00
      p.m. Refer to the NICU department policy for specific visitation guidelines.
    • Pedi ICU - Limited to two visitors at one time.
    • Intensive Care (MICU) - 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 8:00
      p.m. to 10 p.m. If the staff determines it is in the best interest of the patient and
      staff, staff may allow additional visitation.
    • Intensive Care (SICU, LICU) – 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. to 6:00
      p.m.; 8:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. If the staff determines it is in the best interest of the
      patient and staff, staff may allow additional visitation.
    • South 9 - Children under the age of 14 may visit with prior Charge Nurse
      approval.
    • Inpatient Cardiology (CCU, CICU, ICCU) - 9am to 9pm for adult visitation;
      children under the age of 14 may visit with prior approval from the Charge
      Nurse.
    • Renal Telemetry - Children under the age of 14 may visit transplant population
      with prior approval from the unit Charge Nurse.
    • Dialysis - Visitation may occur at 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. for 15
      minutes at a time.
    • Cardiac Telemetry - Flexible adult visitation. Children under age 14 may visit
      with prior approval from the unit Charge Nurse.
    • Behavioral Services - Visitation should be arranged to permit the patients
      uninterrupted treatment sessions.
    • Rehabilitation – 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1:30 p.m.
      to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Visitation should be arranged to permit
      the patients uninterrupted treatment sessions. Refer to department specific
      policies for more information.

  • No more than four visitors are permitted in a patient room at a time to ensure better rest for the patient.
  • All visitors must be free of any signs and symptoms, such as coughing, which might indicate a contagious disease.
  • Patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and those with conditions that increase their risk of infection may not receive live flowers or plants.
  • All visitors are asked to clean their hands when entering a patient’s room.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave by nursing personnel if special procedures are to be
    performed or if a life-threatening situation occurs.
  • Visitors must be at least 16 years of age. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by, and remain under the direct supervision of, a parent or guardian in order to be admitted as a visitor.
  • Children younger than age six will not be admitted as visitors unless their parent or guardian has completed the screening for infectious disease form, which is located at the front desk.
  • Children are allowed to visit, according to the following visitation guidelines, if they are
    accompanied by an adult and are properly supervised.
    • Children’s visits should be limited to 15 minutes.
    • Children that are ill should not visit patients.
    • Upon receipt of a report of inappropriate behavior, the supervising adult may be
      directed to escort the child and/or children to the main lobby. If inappropriate behavior
      continues in the main lobby, the supervising adult may be asked to remove the
      child/children from the building by security personnel. Note: Inappropriate behavior
      may include, but not be limited to: screaming, yelling, running, jumping, interfering
      with other visitors, abuse of hospital property, verbal/physical abuse of staff, and
      remaining in the unit when ill.
    • The child and/or children requested to be removed from a unit for inappropriate
      behavior should not be permitted to return to the patient care areas for the remainder of the calendar day.
  • Visitors that obstruct the flow of traffic, cause damage to the environment of care, or whose
    behavior is disruptive to other patients or the performance of nursing duties should be
    asked to leave the area. Security may be called to assist in traffic control.
  • Nursing personnel are authorized to control visitation if the number of visitors become
    detrimental to the patient or unit.
  • Waiting areas are provided for family and friends of the hospitalized patient.

Parking

Covenant Health System maintains a general parking policy for the garages of the Covenant Medical Center–19th Street and the Lakeside Campuses:

  • Upon admission, all inpatients receive two seven-day parking passes. The passes are transferable from one person to another and may be renewed if the patient’s stay is longer than seven days.
  • Outpatient surgery patients will receive a one-day pass upon admission.

Valet parking is $4 and available at the main entrance to the Covenant Medical Center, Monday–Friday. All vehicles that enter through the valet entrance will be subject to the appropriate fee. There is no parking in the valet area on weekends.

Discounts for valet parking:

  • Handicapped: 50%
  • SeniorCare: 50%

Any patient/visitor surface lot is free of charge. Garage fees are as follows:

  • Less than 90 minutes: No charge
  • 90 minutes–2 hours: $2
  • 2–3 hours: $3
  • More than 3 hours: $4
  • Lost tickets: $10
